Wrestling season has begun. The first official wrestling practice took place right after Halloween and the team’s first match this year was November 27 in Smyrna. CCCHS’ wrestling team won overwhelmingly against Franklin County, Clarksville Northeast, and pulled off a close win against Smyrna with scores of 57-18, 53-22, 42-40, respectively.

Creed Matherne, a senior member of the CCCHS wrestling team took a hard fall during a drill session that resulted in season ending injuries to his back. This sort of injury is rare, and Coach Barlow states he has never heard of one similar in his more than twenty years of coaching football and his thirteen years of coaching wrestling.

Coach Barlow states that CCCHS’ wrestling athletes work very hard for little to no recognition within the community. He is very confident in his wrestlers and believes that as long as they are aggressive and play with heart, they will win. Additionally he states “I would challenge anyone to come out to the home matches and see the toughest sport in high school with some very dedicated athletes.”
