Many students got their wishes granted when Coffee County Schools were canceled on Thursday, March 1. After 4 inches of rain fell within 24 hours in Manchester, Coffee County was issued an area flood warning. Coffee County Highway Department closed seven roads including Lumley Stand, West Riddle, Keasling, Gowen, Clancy, Hickory Grove and Parker Roads due to the flooding.  At approximately 8:13 p.m. on Wednesday, a text alert was issued from Coffee County Schools announcing the closing of schools the following day. At 8:50 a.m. The National Weather Service considered Duck River as a “near flood stage,” as the river stood at 12.45 feet, when on a normal day, the river stands at about 2 feet. However, at 11 a.m. the river had risen to an astounding 13.33 feet. At 1:00 p.m., waters receded to about 12.91 feet Thursday afternoon.
