The beginning of the softball season is quickly approaching.

The team has been conditioning and participating in open facilities since October. They have lifted wieghts, have worked on skills, and have run for the past six months to get ready for the opening night March 11. Coach McWhorter said,”Our  hopes for the season are to build off the late season success we had last year. Defend our district and region championship and hopefully play for a state championship.” Last year they finished with an overall record of 21-20. The team finished the year strong with a district and region championship while losing the final game before the state tournament. They finished the tournament as one of the last 16 teams in the state.

This year’s assistant coaches are Coach Spears,  Coach Ashley, Coach Danielle, and the head coach is Coach McWhorter also known as “Coach Mac”. There are a few players who are potential college prospects in the years to come. The key returning starters are as follows- Haley Richardson (infield), Katie Rutledge (outfield), Keri Munn (pitcher), Ashley Evans (second base), and Sarah West (outfield/catcher). There are two players that have already been signed by colleges; Katie Rutledge will play at Blue Mountain College in Mississippi, and Haley Richardson will play for Trevecca Nazarene University  in Nashville.

All of the seniors will serve as teen leaders this year. There are also some sophomore and freshman who have an opportunity to play varsity this year. The seniors from last year left big holes to fill including catcher, first base, and outfield. Sarah West, Jayden Scheller, and Kiya Ferrell will all complete to replace the catcher position. Haley Miller, Lexi Holder, and Haley Richardson will all compete for first base, and there are many capable of starting  in the outfield this season.

The team’s toughest opponents will be  district teams including Lincoln, Lawrence, and Tullahoma. The team also plays Siegel this year who was ranked high in the state last year. Coach Mac said “ We are very excited about this season, and are looking for a better season than last. The expectations are high this season, but the girls are ready for the task. We would love for everyone to find a game and come out and enjoy the game of fast pitch softball.”
