Come Join Chess Club!

Kathryn Welch, Business Manager

Hey The Chess Club invites all students interested in after school activities and games surrounding learning and playing chess.

The CCCHS Chess Club, led by Mr. King, has met every Tuesday in the library for the past month. Anyone can join these meetings and take part, students do not have to bring their own board they may do so if they desire; however, there are no requirements to join. Club members who wish to attend and compete in a real USCF tournament must be a card-carrying member of the USCF. That fee amount is $26 for anyone over 16. There is no prior chess knowledge needed to join, but students should come expecting to learn if they don’t know how to play and to also discover different techniques. The club is currently covering notation used to record moves and will soon play one and two move checkmate endgame puzzles. These will help strengthen abilities and can be easily practiced. The club will spend time over historical analysis and reviewing GameMaster games. Mr. King hopes for the Chess Club are that a tournament can be scheduled toward the end of the year and also that students would have fun while learning to get better at the game.
