TikTok has lead average people to the limelight

Addison Rae starred in the poorly-casted Netflix film “He’s All That.”

TikTok has provided a quick path to fame for many on the app. One of the most well known is 20-year-old Addison Rae.

In 2019, Rae rose to fame through her dancing videos and has continued to profit off of those as she has been provided a multitude of opportunities from them.

A dream of many, and reached by few, came true for Rae.

In 2020, it was announced that she would star in Netflix’s “She’s All That” remake, appropriately titled “He’s All That.”

On August 25, 2021 Rae made her film debut.

Every movie will have critics, but hopefully fans will outnumber.

Unfortunately, that was not the case for Rae. Rotten Tomatoes scored her movie thirty percent.

“It’s unwatchable for anyone over 11 years old,” one critic stated on the Rotten Tomatoes website.

Although Rae may have earned her role, her name recognition had to have a huge part in getting her the part.

Many actors work for years before they get their breakthrough role, and even then they may not get attention for it.

These actors have dedicated their time to perfecting their skills, while Rae dropped out of college after three months because she wanted to spend her time making fifteen second clips of her dancing.

However, it was a smart move for Netflix to cast her.

The worse a movie turns out to be, the more people will hate watch. That luckily happened for “He’s All That.”

Netflix knows that the more viewers they get, the more profit they’ll bring in. So no matter how bad a movie is, as long as it has someone noteworthy, they will make their money back.

It’s not only Rae that has summoned attention quickly.

Other TikTok influencers have been pursuing different paths. Many have released music and starred in mediocre Youtube shows.

Famous sister duo, Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, have recently made their TV debut with “The D’Amelio Show” on Hulu.

Honestly, it is admirable how easy these influencers have risen to fame. People spend years desiring it, and few have found the easy path.

Influencers have not only an easy path to fame, but all around easier time in the industry.

They have been provided opportunities left and right just because they are loved by eleven year olds, and because of their mass followings, they get away with things too easily.

Every other week there is something new about a TikToker’s drama and how they said something racist, homophobic, or plain out wrong. However, it gets dusted over in no time.

These influencers have no repercussions. They have had it too easy.

Rae is not a stranger to this. She’s fought her own battles over things said in the past and present.

Influencers need to face consequences like any other person because if they want to be an influence, they need to be a good one.

Altogether, influencers, specifically TikTokers, have been handed out opportunities and ultimately had it too easy. It is completely okay for them to have the attention they do, but they need to better recognize that they are extremely privileged in the way they gained success.
