The Out of the Darkness walk is a walk that benefits the American foundation for suicide prevention, by raising awareness for different mental health issues like: suicide, depression, anxiety, etc.
The main goal is raising awareness for suicide, but any money that is raised helps tremendously with the program as a whole. This walk happens annually and begins at the Rotary park, goes through both the Fred Deadman and Dave King parks, around the square, and loops back to the Rotary making it a 14 mile walk.
The 2023 walk is to be held on September 15th, and both the DECA and FBLA clubs at Coffee County Central High school are promoting the walk, supporting the people who struggle daily. They have informed all of the student body about the walk, and are actively taking in applications so people can sign up for the event.
DECA and FBLA are the clubs that represent the business department at CCCHS. They give students insight into the real world of business and how life works. Specifically, DECA is the marketing association and FBLA is known as “The Future Business Leaders of America” who focus on accounting and more specific business practices.
