Titans veteran quarterback, Ryan Tannehill sustained a high ankle sprain while facing the Baltimore Ravens during week six. In his injury, the Titans were forced to put in a rookie quarterback, Will Levis.
Levis attended and played football at Penn State and the University of Kentucky. The six-foot-tall quarterback had been predicted to be a first round draft pick but unfortunately wasn’t selected by the Titans until day two.
Levis’ debut as a starting quarterback in the NFL was in week eight due to having had a bye week during week seven. It was that week that the Titans faced the Falcons. Levis and the Titans won, the final score being 28 to 23. Levis became one of only three players to have four or more touchdowns in their first NFL game. The other two players on this list are Marcus Mariota and Fran Tarkenton.
Levis’ specific stats were just as unexpected as his four touchdowns. The four touchdowns allowed him to show off his arm as they were more than 30 yard passes; this is farther than any debut game in NFL history, excluding strike-shortened seasons. In total, he has 238 passing yards, completing 19 of his 29 throws and having a passing rate 130.5.
In the week nine game against Pittsburgh on Thurs. Nov. 2, Levis was only able to get one touchdown and the Titans unfortunately fell 20 to 16. Levis played a good game; however, the Steelers defense had a better night.
The Titans coaching staff faced a hard decision when Tannehill was cleared to play after getting back on his feet. They have decided to name Levis starting quarterback and have struggled, only being able to get a win over Carolina in the past few weeks. Titans fans are on the edge of their seats, waiting to know what happens in the latter half of the season. Fans across the state hope things will start to look up, and Levis will bring the team to more victories.
