You’ve heard of it, everybody and their mother has heard of it: Valentine’s Day!
February 14 of every year a holiday called Valentine’s Day is celebrated. It’s a day to show love and affection to the people you care about. People often exchange cards, chocolates, flowers, and gifts to express their love for their significant others, friends, and families. It’s a lovely day to celebrate and appreciate the special relationships in our lives.
Valentine’s Day goes back to ancient Rome. It started out as a festival called Lupercalia, which was about welcoming spring and fertility.
However, around the fifth century, Pope Gelasius I replaced it with St. Valentine’s Day. It wasn’t all about love and romance from the start, though. That part came into the picture in the Middle Ages, thanks to poets like Geoffrey Chaucer. Since then, it’s become a day to express love and affection to the people we care about.
In the Coffee County Central High School cafeteria last week, students could be on the lookout for the Coffee Press selling candy grams! They were only a dollar per candy gram.
If you don’t know what a candy gram is, it is simply a message with some candy. They are sold in clear bags, filled with candy and either a red, pink, or white heart tied onto the bag. The heart will have a message you can write and send to anyone, either from you or anonymously!
Anything inappropriate will not be sent and no refunds will be given. These were sold during all three lunch periods, but if you could purchase one during lunch, you could come to Dr. Brown’s room, room 22, to do so.
