Fantasy football started in 1962 by Wilfred “Bill” Winkenback. Winkenbach first had the idea for fantasy football while he was traveling with the Oakland Raiders. Wikenbach was a minority owner of the team.
Fantasy football is an online game in which participants select eligible NFL players to take their dream team during their leagues “draft.” They start with week one of real life NFL and play until their league has all played each other twice and they have top four and consolation games until a champion unfolds. Users play with leagues of people and scoring is based on the stats of selected NFL players.
NFL fantasy football is common among workplaces, clubs, teams, families, and more. It allows for healthy banter and a way to relieve tensions. However, some leagues take fantasy football very seriously.
Some fantasy football leagues have prizes or punishments for winners and losers. Some of these include, but are far from limited to, loser buys winner’s dinner, drive thru pranks, and posting funny videos.
Fantasy football has gotten many non-football watchers invested in football and continues to trend upwards. Winkenbach’s small thought out of boredom has grown farther than anyone on that bus could have ever imagined.
