Coach Cope Has District Championship Goal for Lady Raider Basketball
October 12, 2017
Having coached at Ole Miss, Coach Joe Pat Cope brings collegiate experience to the Lady Raider Basketball team at CCCHS. In addition to coaching basketball, Coach Cope serves as the new drivers’ education teacher.
With twenty years of coaching experience, Cope expects nothing but the best. Cope confidently states, “Anything short of a district championship, we’ll be disappointed in.” This confidence does not come without reason as he has had great success in the past. “I was at Dekalb for seven seasons, and a little history on Dekalb; before I took that program over, they had a 22-223 record for the previous ten seasons. In my time there we made two regional semifinals and went 126-92” Cope stated.

After asking what brought Cope to CCCHS he responded, “I knew of the tradition of this program at Coffee County. I can remember back to the great teams in the 90s and saw that talent coming back in the last season. I just thought this would be a great opportunity.” Cope added, “I really like the closeness of Coffee County. Coffee County has great students, and great leadership. Dr. Vaughn does a great job as well as the assistant principals. It’s just like a big family here, and I really like that.”
Aside from coaching basketball, Cope has coached tennis, football, and golf. In his freetime, Cope enjoys riding horses and has trained and shown them almost twenty-five years. Coach Cope invites the student body and the entire Coffee County community to enjoy a basketball game and to support the Lady Raiders.

Hey Coach!
Wow!! What a start to this season being 11-0. The comeback win over Cookeville last Saturday night was characteristic of a championship team. They were by far the best team so far this season. Hope we can get em at home this Friday night to sweep. Looks like Tullahoma is coming together with two road wins at Warren County and Oakland. Just got to keep Julia Duncan bottled up. You know she is a traitor and should be playing for Central?

Just want to tell you what a heck of a job you are doing at Central. I was a student there during the 1967-69 seasons and where guards didn’t cross mid court. We always had a tremendous girls’ team and captured many district and regional titles. Last season was great with a disappointing loss to Oakland to end the season. I look forward to following the team this season and hopefully a district champion. As long as we continue to beat Tullahoma I will be happy.
