On Saturday, March 3, the Lady raiders played the Hendersonville Commandos in the sub state game. The Lady Raiders came out ready to play. They started the game with a strong defense and even stronger offense.
By the end of the first quarter, Coffee County was up 22 to zero. The raider offense continued on strong for the remainder of the first half, going into the second half 33 to nine. During the first half alone, the Lady Raiders forced 12 turnovers.
In the second half, the Raiders didn’t let fatigue slow them down. They played with all they had and ended the game with a phenomenal score of 63 to 30. Several players were a part of this victory. Junior Olivia Vinson–who was also Thunder Radio’s player of the game–scored 15 points, freshman Jules Ferrels got an astonishing 16 points, Channah Gannon–a highly recruited junior–scored 13, sophomore Natalie Barnes got 11, and sophomore Audri Patton helped with the win with 8 points.
Leading up to the state sectional, the Lady Raiders had a great season. For the first time in school history, they were the region champions. Now, after the victory against Hendersonville, for the first time in 31 years the Lady Raiders have a run at state.
On Wednesday March 6 at 12:45, the Lady Raiders will take on Dobyns Bennett from Kingsport, Tenn. during the first round of the state tournament. The state tournament is held at Middle Tennessee State University. Whoever wins will advance, and the loser will have ended the season. Either way, both teams have accomplished a great feat by making it to the glass house.
The community and school are so excited to support this Lady Raider team. It has been a full house for several of the Lady Raiders’ previous games and it seems State will be the same. The community is enthralled with excitement, and the girls appear to have a ton of momentum going into the state tournament!
