The tradition of the Easter Bunny bringing children baskets of toys, candy, and eggs is a fun practice to have with children, but where does such an idea come from?
The legend of the Easter Bunny, sometimes called the Easter Hare, first originated in Germany.
The ‘Easter Hare’ would decide in the beginning of Spring whether the children were nice or naughty, similar to the tradition of Santa Claus.
The bunny made its way to England for religious reasons, as the depiction of eggs and the bunny symbolized a rebirth of sorts and from there, immigration brought it to America.
Today, the images have merged with the Christian celebration of Christ’s resurrection, Easter, which is what many of us now celebrate.
Although many children may not learn of the Easter Bunny’s true identity in a few years, it’s a fun tradition to have with people of all ages! Who doesn’t love chocolate or a little stuffed animal? The magic of Easter is never truly broken!
