Through the month of April, Coffee County Central High School’s Student Government Association (SGA) created the “Clothespin Compliment Challenge.” The challenge took place from April 8-26. The challenge’s main goal was to, “throw compliments like confetti,” in order to make people smile, laugh, and feel genuinely happy.
The compliments were given by people on handwritten index cards, which were super glued to clothespins. The cards could be decorated any way someone pleased, and given to any and everyone including students and faculty. It was simple; make and decorate a compliment card, connect it to a clothespin, and pin someone.
That said there were rules regarding the creation and distribution of compliments. Those rules were that compliments could only be made at the refill stations during homeroom and lunch, and once you received a compliment you were supposed to pass it forward to another person. The refill stations contained pins, markers, cards, and hot glue guns to connect the pins and compliments all in the SGA room and cafeteria. At the end of the challenge, a whole wall is going to be filled with compliments on a clothesline to ensure the school always remembers and reads the positivity to make any and everyone’s day better.
Ultimately, the “clothespin compliment challenge” was a way of clean and organized fun, without interrupting instruction of teachers. The challenge noticeably brightened the faces of students and faculty through those three weeks. People were openly showing their gratitude towards each other. The SGA and Coffee County made sure to enforce the “kindness matters” movement, and did it the best way possible by including everyone in the building.
