Leading up to March, The Coffee County Central High School theatre program worked day and night to present their performance of “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”, and it showed. The musical rendition, based on the story written by Charles Dickens before he passed away, was created by Rupert Holmes. The story takes place in Victorian era England in the city of Cloisterham. This is not just any show, as the audience has the opportunity to vote on key aspects of the story. It follows a variety of characters, including: The seemingly mad Mr. Jasper, played by Carter Jernigan, the impertinent Edwin Drood, played by Aliza Freeze, and the fair miss Rosa Bud, played by Elizabeth Womack. The story is narrated by the humble Chairman, played by Jay Eaton. The cast of characters hardly ends there, including the following: Neville Landless, played by Jonathon Williams, Helena Landless, played by Mireya Loyola-Raymundo, The Reverend Crisparkle, played by Lola George, The Princess Puffer, played by Sarah Rogers, Bazzard, played by Ethan Bennett, Durdles, played by Rex Baker, Deputy, played by Elizabeth Miller, and Throttle, played by Emi Snider.
The Musical was directed by Jonathon Higdon and vocally directed by Mrs. Peterson. The backstage crew included: Cali Denham as stage manager, and Rachel Slade as the assistant stage manager. Reagan McCrary and Mallory Miller operated sound, and the lights were operated by Marley Muehlhauser, Marylynn Colter, and Jayden Eckles. Show dates ran Mar. 14th through 16th.
