The Coffee County Central High School journalism staff as well as Ms Knox’s fourth period participated in a two day criminal justice mock trial.

The court session began on April 12, in Mrs Acklen’s room. In addition to an audience, prosecution team, and defense team, there were twelve jury members, two of whom were from the journalism staff. Ann Petty, one of them, said “I really enjoyed it. It was interesting to see a court case, given I’ve never really been into that kind of stuff.”

What were the accusations- terrorism, possession of an explosive substance, and possession of a weapon on school campus. The “witnesses,” all played by students, were called to the stand to testify about a fictional bombing at Park Lane High School.

At the end of the trial, the verdict was clear: the defense was not guilty. There was not enough evidence from the prosecution to convict the defense of any crime. Needless to say, the verdict was a shock and was met with a loud gasp.
