Cross Country Come to a Close

Cross country came to an end on Tuesday, October 25. The vast majority of the varsity teams were made up of freshman so the team was lacking in terms of experience in competing at the the high school level. The teams consisted of 9 freshman, 1 sophomore, and 4 juniors. The boys completely blew the competition out of the water at the home meets. Unfortunately, the teams did not place as well as expected at the regional meet. The highest place finisher at regionals for Coffee County was freshman, Patricia Barrera, who placed 14th. “By the end of the season, the team was visually faster and more intelligent on the course,” said Coach Wanuch.

The biggest difference was the inexperience and the size of the team. These two factors put the team at a disadvantage in the larger meets, though many runners had better performances with the increased competition. Consequently, the team won almost all of the smaller races in which they competed. Based on their success, with the disadvantage that can be overcome in time, the team has a high chance of being very successful in the future.
