Coffee and Manchester City School Systems give back to the community

On Friday, November 13, the Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry organized an event sponsored by a joint effort between the Coffee County and Manchester City school systems.

The event was also sponsored by the Manchester City Police and Fire departments and was hosted by First Baptist Church of Manchester. 

There were over 165 people who volunteered to serve their community and help distribute food throughout the day. The food pantry served 1,103 individuals.

At the food pantry, parents with students in the school systems can go to the host location and after they fill out a form for data purposes, they can collect food through the second harvest. During a normal pantry, the patrons are guided through a maze of food by a volunteer and they are able to select and pick out the food that they want.

Due to COVID-19, the food pantry was structured as a “drive-through” mobile pantry, where each recipient drives up to a point to receive a pre-prepared food box. 

The Second Harvest Food Pantry is an excellent example of what is most important during the holiday season. By hosting this pantry and giving back to the community, everyone who helped contribute is helping make someone’s life better, which in turn makes the world a better place

Second Harvest Food Pantry hosts multiple pantries throughout the school year, the next food pantry hosted by the school systems is TBA.
