“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Pricilla Presley, Lisa Marie’s mother, spoke emotionally about her daughter’s sudden death. 

“She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

On Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, the world lost an adored and cherished singer, songwriter, mother, daughter, and friend: Lisa Marie Presley.

Her untimely death occurred only days after attending the Golden Globes alongside her mother, Priscilla Presley, and Austin Butler, who played her iconic father, Elvis Presley, in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 film entitled “Elvis,” which has earned several nominations and awards.

After the shattering news of her death surfaced, many sources concluded Presley’s heart stopped beating at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12. She also suffered a second cardiac arrest after being rushed to the hospital later that morning. 

Until paramedics arrived, however, her former husband, Danny Keough performed CPR on her.  She was 54 years old at the time of her death.

Lisa Marie’s immensely devastating passing has impacted her family, friends, colleagues, fans, and the rest of the world. Many of those closest to her expressed their deep sorrow and sympathy for her family in the wake of her death. Celebrities such as Nicholas Cage, Dolly Parton, Austin Butler, and many others voiced their sadness via social media.

“This is devastating news. Lisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met. She lit up every room, and I am heartbroken. I find some solace believing she is reunited with her son Benjamin,” The “National Treasure” star Nicholas Cage, who had been married to Presley in the early 2000s, said in a statement.

Dolly Parton addressed Lisa Marie’s family, those with us and those no longer with us, in a heart-felt Instagram post. “Priscilla, I know how sad you must be. May God comfort you at this time. Elvis, I know how happy you must be to finally have her home and to have her back with you. Lisa Marie, may you rest in peace. We all love all of you.”

“My heart is completely shattered for Riley, Finley, Harper and Priscilla at the tragic and unexpected loss of Lisa Marie,” the “Elvis” actor Austin Butler shared in an emotional message through social media.  “I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared. Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered.”

Lisa Marie Presley will be buried alongside her son, Benjamin Keough–who died in 2020–at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. Graceland, Elvis’s infamous mansion, will be inherited by Lisa Marie’s three daughters, Riley Keough and twins Finley and Harper Lockwood.
