Don’t Fret, Guitar Class is Here

Ann Petty and Halli Richards

Newly formed guitar class gives all students the opportunity to discover music.

Mr. Curley’s guitar class, created towards the end of July, is flourishing despite its initial struggles of creating a new curriculum and making its existence known to students.

If the average student walked into this class, he or she would observe the artists working through packets of songs (which the students complete at their own pace), presenting projects, and studying music history and music theory. This class is graded on aspects such as quizzes, packet checkpoints and project presentations.  He even plans to have a spring performance to showcase his students’ talents.

Mr. Curley passionately urges students to join next year,so he can have as many sections as possible,“ You don’t have to know anything about music. You can have a kid that  has never played music before, never done anything, and they just somehow get an acoustic guitar, and they will be fine in this class.” Mr. Curley doesn’t want students to be turned off by the fact they have never done this before because to him: it’s all about the learning! He encourages any interested students to come to him for more information.
